|Parliament passes C-279 Trans Rights bill

Bill C-279 has passed. That's two Parliaments in a row which have (albeit reluctantly) voted in favour of granting trans people the same rights they take for granted. But of course "Prime Minister Stephen Harper, most of his front bench and the vast majority of his backbenchers opposed it." Quelle surprise. And cue the obligatory bathroom bill nonsense "such as the argument that pedophiles would be protected when they lurked in public bathrooms" which deliberately conflates trans people with pedophiles.
It's strange, but in the more than 150 jurisdictions in North America alone where similar protections have been enacted, not one trans person has ever been charged with a sexual assault in a washroom. Not one. You can't say that for Conservatives.
Now it has to get through the Senate, where Bill Siksay's bill died during the last election.
